The 2nd of July I went to see my future office; I discover a high and class building on Jiangsu Lu. I look at people which go inside and I infer that in two days the suit will be an obligation. We are the 4th and it’s my first day of working for PChome.
The 2nd of July I went to see my future office; I discover a high and class building on Jiangsu Lu. I look at people which go inside and I infer that in two days the suit will be an obligation. We are the 4th and it’s my first day of working for PChome. I came dressed with a white shirt and a black trousers, the official way of being dressed for every real French workers. First surprise, the PChome dress code is T-shirt and sneaker. The first surprise will not be the only one. My boss shows me the society and I note that everyone is connecting on MSN. I first think it’s a break time and then I realized that they are using MSN as a real working tool. I’ve got an advice for you, if one day you go to work in France be careful, your boss must not see you connected` if you want to keep good relations with him.
At 12h, whereas I haven’t yet digesting my breakfast my workmate tell me it’s lunch time. Lunch is generally an ordinary thing but not for me, not in china. Eat noodles with chopsticks is a real art. When I came back from this experience to the company I saw some of my colleagues sleeping on their desk. This vision seems totally unbelievable for me before I remember that one day, when I was sleeping during a lesson my Chinese teacher tell me “you’re not in china, if you take a nap I’ll exclude you from my class”. After having discovered all those strange habits I try to work and I tired my workmates with many question (thanks to all of them). I finally write my first article about lost planet.
The second week is beginning by a meeting in witch I guess the boss have remind us every objectives of the company. I said I guess because the meeting was in Chinese (normal for a Chinese society but not very easy when you don’t speak Chinese.) French meeting are not my favorite part in jobs. I let you imagine in Chinese… I progressively learn how to test a graphic card; you have to know that European people generally don’t know anything about the different parts of a computer for a simple reason: when they buy a computer they buy it with everything inside. In opposite, Chinese people compare and buy every elements of a computer one by one. As a good European person I had never open a computer before I came here.
Step by step I write articles about different products like digital camera, graphic card, or video games and I realize that it could be interesting to regroup every English articles of PChome in the same topic. My boss was OK and tells me it’s an occasion to show what a foreigner thinks about china. In this goal I’ll try to maintain this rubric update.
